Right now they're using the functionality of the MPEG card.  Apparently there
are two different kinds, one of which they refer to as "full featured", which
I take to mean record and playback, but not simultaneously.  The other one is
playback only.

Also, it looks like the card itself produces analog video out; there are some
docs on modifying a jumper and rewiring the card to add an SVideo output.

There is a streaming patch that allows Mplayer to be the recipient of RTP
packets coming from the encoder, but it only works for live video.

The linuxtv.org site seems to focus on the DVB drivers.  The VDR mailing list
is searchable from the linuxtv.org site.
