Apparently there are two different kinds, one of which they refer to as "full featured", which I take to mean record and playback, but not simultaneously. The other one is playback only. Also, it looks like the card itself produces analog video out; there are some docs on modifying a jumper and rewiring the card to add an SVideo output. There is a streaming patch that allows Mplayer to be the recipient of RTP packets coming from the encoder, but it only works for live video. http://www.cadsoft.de/people/kls/vdr/index.htm is the actual VDR project.
