Hello. I just joined the list, and interested in helping with the development of OpenPacket.org I have to admit I was pretty excited about such a site once I had found Richard's blog. :-) I read the previous post that Mark Mason had made about creating the site on the Ruby on Rails framework. Although I really like the framework, I don't think it fits the site requirements. My recommendation would be Django (http://www.djangoproject.com). It has many things built in, and we wouldn't have to spend the time re-creating them. This includes comments (very extensible), administration, user management, and caching. I am not going to just give you a run down on what it all can do, the web site does a very good job at that. Because Django has very good quality web applications built in, it already gives us a great head start on the site. I have been working on a prototype application, and if I have time, I might have something this weekend to show. I will let you know when I have more done. Jake |
