                       The Community OpenORB 1.3.0 suite released.

September 30, 2002 (The INTERNET). The Community OpenORB team today shipp=
ed=20
the Community OpenORB 1.3.0 suite release.=20

This major release follows the 1.2.1 release after 8 months of developmen=
t=20
done on the SourceForge (http://sourceforge.net/) servers by a team of=20
developers across the world.

The major changes over the 1.2.1 release includes:=20
- Reduced memory footprint.
- Improved source code readability (aligned with Apache/Jakarta coding
  guidelines).
- Lots of bug fixes.
- Enhanced JDK 1.4 support
- Relocation of the Transient Naming Service to the NamingService
  package.
- Total refactoring the logging system (server side exceptions will
  not disappear on the server anymore).
- Improved support for multiple ORBs in a single VM (removed
  System.exit() calls inside the ORB)
- Many internal code improvements (more refactoring).
- Enhanced javadoc.
- Enhanced ORB configuration and initialization.
- IDLCompiler code generation improvements (speedup in invoke methods,
  default factory generation, IdlParser can load IDL file from jars
  now, improved debug output, removed InterfaceRepository lookup for
  performance reasons)
- Improved support for multiple endpoints in an IOR by adding the new
  property openorb.client.bindings.discard_old for tweaking of
  endpoints received from LOCATION_FORWARD replies and by implementing
  the support for the propertyset XML tag in the OpenORB config files.
- Added support for local calls.
- Better codeset support.
- Added fix to avoid BAG_MAGIC exceptions when running OpenORB with JDK1.=
4
  and NT4.0.
- Added configuration enhancement to allow the control of TCP_NODELAY
  feature on both the client and server side.

The Community OpenORB suite:

The suite is an implementation of the Common Object Request Broker=20
Architecture also known as CORBA(r); a specification by the Object Manage=
ment=20
Group(tm) (OMG).

The core currently implements the 2.4.2 specification with work being don=
e to=20
bring it up to the 2.6.1 sepcification.

The Community OpenORB suite also includes the following OMG services:
 o Concurrency Control Service
 o Event Service
 o Interoperable Naming Service
 o Notification Service
 o Persistent State Service
 o Property Service
 o Time Service
 o Trading Service
 o Transaction Service

The Community OpenORB suite contains no native code and is implemented in=

The Community OpenORB suite is a community fork of the open source projec=

OpenORB (http://openorb.exolab.org/). The goal of this initiative is to m=

the evolution of the OpenORB project more transparent and to allow the
community to take part in making decisions about its future.
