I was very happy to find OpenOPC, thanks for releasing it. I am testing against a vendor's free simulation server per the web site docs.
I have started testing by using Python2.7 win32 local (not using the gateway). things work very well except that my test of reading a group of 60 tags sometimes errors out silently, no debug info. The 60 tags are a list of all under Random.
Will I see better results under an earlier verision of python.
If there is a newer OpenOPC release coming soon, the timing would be impeccable.

try the same using gateway (even if on same machine).
i'm pulling groups of over 100 tags without any issues, and a total tag count of around 2,500 for one opc server alone.
