Hello, I've been wanting to sync PIM data between linux and my mobile phone since around 2005, but have never had satisfactory experiences with any of the syncml-based projects that I track (see [1] below). I am now wondering whether I should just write some bash scripts to use obexftp to push/pull my contact/calendar/todo/note data, and write the sync logic myself (leveraging tools like diff, rsync, etc). This approach does not have a high barrier of entry (like syncml), and may allow me to get some quick results. Before I get started, I am wondering whether obexftp will allow me to list, create, read, update, delete contacts/calendar/todo/note data via the various "telecom" files? I've read a little about obex, but I am uncertain whether obexftp will let me browse and manipulate uid-based filenames. I am also uncertain whether I will be able to access todos/notes with obexftp (i.e. I only know about telecom/pb and telecom/cal). Thanks for any tips or suggestions. Jason. ------------------------------ [1] Indications of syncml options that I track * opensync: Cannot get todo/calendar to sync. Developers are unresponsive on list. Development is extremely slow. * scheduleworld: Closed source & now requires payment. * funambol: I would love to host a server, but my phone does not have wifi. I want a bluetooth solution. * Bluecove: Java bluetooth lib that supports obex over bluetooth, but no syncml efforts as yet. |

Browsing is very limited, but the filenames are well known anyway. (My old Siemens phone supports browsing and worked pretty well with that scheme) > I am also uncertain whether I will be able to access todos/notes > with obexftp (i.e. I only know about telecom/pb and telecom/cal). I don't know of any standard but if your phone supports this ObexFTP can get/put it. regards, Christian |
