If you installed from ISO did you configure network interface as DHCP in installer? It should do DHCP request on vmbr0 then. Please note that on OpenNode eth0 should be without address (eth0 should be up but not configured) - we use vmbr0 instead (eth0 is a member to that bridge). OpenNode Management Server (OMS) and its web console will be packaged as a separate OpenVZ VM - its public release is still some weeks away. OpenNode 1.1 beta1 containes updated opennode cli utility for local management tasks and is a requirement for OMS use after OMS will be released. When doing yum upgrade opennode cli utility might be removed from PATH environment variable - we will fix this in next 1.1 beta. You can still run opennode CLi utility by executing on console: /opt/opennode/bin/opennode Cheers, -- ---------------------------------------------- Andres Toomsalu, an...@ac... Thanks for the quick and detailed response. So, the beta version 1.1 is not the one with Web UI then I am assuming. I got into the regular console using FUNC. I did the beta upgrade and restarted the machine. Now, the prompt for login reads virtN and the management utility is gone. I guess I should go back to the stable version. I am really looking forward to the Web UI as without it, it's the graphs and stats are very useful. Hello, I hope the following answers your questions. If you choose Exit in the OpenNode Management Utility you are returned to the regular terminal where you can do all the common linux management. The console that opens under the Management button is the virsh management console for managing virtual machines over the libvirt API. The coming OpenNode 1.1 version supports virsh console shortcut buttons for both OpenVZ and KVM. Web UI will be hopefully released in the coming weeks when last tweaks are carried out. Then you will have and option in the OpenNode Management Utility to download, install and configure the Web UI. And also we will provide all the necessary guidelines on our dedicated OpenNode webpage. Hi Everyone, I am new to the list and running away from Proxmox due to it's really messy structure. I have seem some screen shots of OpenNode and I am liking it already. I hope it does work for me. I am mostly looking to install Asterisk/CentOS on containers. I have installed the 1.0 stable version from the .iso and I see that it has not picked up an IP from my DHCP router. I do have access to the system but the utility window comes up right away and when I go into Management console it seems like a limited console which doesn't even have "ifconfig". 1- How can I make sure both NIC ports are up and getting IPs? - I saw them starting successfully during boot process. 2- How can I get to the Web UI to launch instances? or is that in the beta version? If so, I am interested to upgrade. What is the procedure? Since, I don't TRUE access to the root I can't even use the Yum repository. Thanks |

We have released first beta version of opennode 1.1 package for brave and adventurous betatesters :-) It is based on OpenNode 1.0 stable kernel and KVM stack - but contains upgraded opennode CLI utility which brings some new goodies. For installing opennnode 1.1 beta 1 rpm package please do the following: switch to opennode-test yum repository (enable opennode-test repo in /etc/yum.repos.d/opennode file and disable opennode repo) do yum upgrade opennode (which should pull opennode-1.1 rpm from opennode-test repo) Most notably OpenNode 1.1 brings the following goodies: Automated OpenVZ VM configuration file generation if deploying VM from OpenNode OVF template - CLI VM installer asks from user how much CPU, MEM, DISK is needed for VM and generates the rest. OVF template file support for both OpenVZ and KVM templates - now its possible to create a OVF compatible VM templates from OpenVZ and KVM VM-s and to set minimum VM resource requirements within OVF template metainfo. Checksum validated template downloads from OpenNode official template store and local template management. Custom Func modules needed by OpenNode Management Server to activate central management features later on. OpenNode 1.1 CLI utility OpenVZ VM procedures should be fairly stable and usable but KVM VM-s OVF templating features need probably some more testing. Please give us feedback and do commit bugreports if encoutering any problems. Cheers, -- ---------------------------------------------- Andres Toomsalu, an...@ac... |

Greetings Dave, As we are on the topic of web management interface, have you got any particular suggestions which features would you personally expect from the interface? Yes - beta testers are welcome. I will let you know as soon as we get management server packaged and installation procedure documented - it may still take around coupple of weeks - we'll try our best. Please also notice that OpenNode is already running headless - it has no GUI (besides GUI installer) - management is done locally over ssh console or through local console. For KVM there is also virt-manager GUI supported - you can run it over ssh remotely with X forwarding enabled (look at exaples on website). -- ---------------------------------------------- Andres Toomsalu, an...@ac... The problem is that the server has a main IP address 88.1.1.1 for example, and the IP address pool for the guests are not in the same subnet. They are routed by my provider through 88.1.1.1. I could imagine they have something like this in their router: route add -host 55.1.2.3 gw 88.1.1.1 (with 55.1.2.3 being the IP to assign to the guest). The provider is OVH (if that helps anyone seeing this)... and those IP addresses can be routed to any of the dedicated servers you own, by using their web interface... So if a server fails, you just route the IP to the other server, and everything keeps working. I currently have 3 Openvz Guests... and the setup looks like this: On the HN: # route -n Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface 188.x.y.226 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255 UH 0 0 0 venet0 188.x.y.227 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255 UH 0 0 0 venet0 188.x.y.225 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255 UH 0 0 0 venet0 What I want is to replicate (as much as possible) this setup for the Windows Guests Julian J. Thanks for the reply. Ok... I have done this in the past: 1) Setup a network (192.168.99.1 on the HN, 192.168.99.2 in the Guest). They can ping each other. 2) Setup iptables to do forward packets on the HN to the Guest 3) Setup iptables to do NAT on packets going out with a src address of 192.168.99.2 That works, but I don't like that setup very much, because the windows Guest doesn't have notion of its public IP address. Note that I'm talking about Windows Guests... Julian J. M. I think you must add proper routes inside KVM VM and/or also to vmbr0 for these subnets. venet interfaces work magically because they are point-to-point and required routes get added automatically - as seen with: route -n To add additional routes to vmbr0 interface do something like that (192.168.55.0 being desired subnet and 192.168.55.1 as gateway to this subnet) : route add -net 192.168.55.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 gw 192.168.55.1 vmbr0 (vmbr0 on HN or eth0 inside VM) Let me know if that helps. ---------------------------------------------- Andres Toomsalu, an...@ac... ope...@li... wrote: > Hello, > > I have a server with 1 public IP address, and 8 more IP addresses > routed through it. Hello, I have a server with 1 public IP address, and 8 more IP addresses routed through it. These are individual IPs, they aren't in the same block. OpenVZ guests work very well in this setup... the HN just forwards packets directed to their IP to the corresponding VNET interface, and everything works very well. How can I replicate this setup with Windows Guests under KVM? Can anyone point me to a tutorial or howto on how to setup both the HN and the Windows Guest networking? Thanks in advance, Julián J. If CentOS does not support your video card at all - then yes - only solution would be installing pure CentOS in text mode (which we dont support in OpenNode installer yet). Have you tried known CentOS installer boot options with OpenNode CD to set resolution to some basic default (like 800x600 or 640x480) etc? Often installer sets video card resolution automatically too high for attached monitor - therefor black screen will happen. Anyway there is also possibility to install OpenNode on existing CentOS installation - but you must ensure that some basic requirements are met - I'll try to describe what should be needed: 1) there must be /storage and /vz folders (on OpenNode they are separate LVM LV-s) 2) you must disable kernel libvirt and kvm updates from all other repos except opennode repo nano -w /etc/yum.repos.d/CentOS-Base.repo --- ADD to BASE and UPDATES and ADDONS and EXTRAS and CENTOSPLUS and CONTRIB --- priority=1 exclude=kernel libvirt* kvm* kmod-kvm* --- ADD to BASE and UPDATES and ADDONS and EXTRAS and CENTOSPLUS and CONTRIB --- 3) install opennode repo file nano -w /etc/yum.repos.d/opennode --- PASTE --- [opennode] name=CentOS-$releasever - activesys opennode packages for $basearch baseurl=http://opennode.activesys.org/CentOS/$releasever/opennode enabled=1 gpgcheck=1 protect=1 priority=1 gpgkey=file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-ActiveSys [opennode-test] name=CentOS-$releasever - activesys opennode packages for $basearch baseurl=http://opennode.activesys.org/CentOS/$releasever/opennode-test enabled=0 gpgcheck=1 protect=1 priority=1 gpgkey=file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-ActiveSys --- PASTE --- 4) Do yum update - this should pull ovzkernel, kvm, libvirt and opennode packages from opennode repo 5) check /etc/sysctl.conf for entries that are needed for VZ - add if these lines are not there: nano -w /etc/sysctl.conf --- MODIFY --- # On Hardware Node we generally need # packet forwarding enabled and proxy arp disabled net.ipv4.ip_forward = 1 # Enables the magic-sysrq key kernel.sysrq = 1 --- MODIFY --- --- ADD --- # OpenVZ net.ipv4.conf.all.send_redirects = 0 net.ipv4.conf.all.rp_filter = 1 net.ipv4.conf.default.send_redirects = 1 # this is enabled for veth bridge setup net.ipv4.conf.default.proxy_arp = 1 --- ADD --- 6) Disable SELinux and disable firewall alltogether - or DNS inside VZ containers will not work! system-config-securitylevel-tui 7) After reboot verify that you are running ovzkernel uname -a Let me know how this procedure works for you - it might be that I missed some little details and I'll try to look these up then if any problems arise. Greetings I don't know which one to email so i am going to email both i hopes to find a solution to this issue so here it goes. i am trying to install Open Node, i really like what i see however, i am running into an issue. i am installing it on hardware that centos has issue with the video and there isn't an alt option to install it on this hardware platform as it only has the "boot" option. is there a way to not have the default drivers loaded or perhaps some step by step instructions to install Open Node on an existing Centos machine? Thank you for your time and assistance Sincerely GGD |

Here are some preliminary OpenNode web-based Management Console screenshots showing off current FuncMan development state: http://opennode.activesys.org/about/wui-screenshots/ FuncMan interface design details are probably going to change a bit in the future - we have been busy to implement console features and have not devoted much time to design details yet. Whats implemented so far: * user authentication through OpenNode Management Server PAM service * SSL encrypted application session and communication layer between Management Server * encrypted HTML5 VNC and SSH consoles (no java or flash required) together with SSH secured access to VM VNC displays on OpenNode hosts (automated tunneling) * listing OpenNode cluster nodes and VMs * OpenNode and VM stats/gauges (agentless VM info only at the moment) * importing/removing registered OpenNode cluster nodes Stuff that needs some more work: * KVM VM create and edit forms * OVZ edit form * KVM and OVZ template download and management * KVM storage management * ISO images management * SSL certificates generator and root-cert setup helper for different web-browsers If all goes well we are hoping to have an alpha release packages ready by the end of september or so. Meanwhile we would very much like to get feedback about your OpenNode experience. Best regards, -- ---------------------------------------------- Andres Toomsalu, an...@ac... |
