Currently my idea is to do a condensed training and some show cases (2-3), that should be good for a day. But let us know what you'd think of being useful! Alex |

Hi, I am also interested, coming from Stuttgart/Germany. Some topics I'm interested: what others are doing with opennms (manage service provider networks, LAN, WAN, more Layer2 or Layer3, ...) tuning measurements/thresholding remote poller working on maps / discuss possibilities to further enhance functionality compare with other management systems (where did we come from? What problems/differences came up during transition to opennms?) to get tips/tricks "how to..." Maybe I can provide my experience coming from netview (if I'm able to come to the meeting and others are interested). - Michael |

I'm interested in (decreasing order of importance): - training session and meeting other users, sharing experiences - maps (customers keep asking ;-)) - syslog filtering (often syslog is just too verbose and kills performance when querying the events table) - sms notifications - monitoring vmware ESX Umberto On Tue, Oct 28, 2008 at 12:20 PM, Michael Seibold <Mic...@ge...> wrote: > Hi, > > I am also interested, coming from Stuttgart/Germany. > > Some topics I'm interested: > > what others are doing with opennms (manage service provider networks, LAN, WAN, more Layer2 or Layer3, ...) > tuning measurements/thresholding > remote poller > working on maps / discuss possibilities to further enhance functionality > compare with other management systems (where did we come from? -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi we have asked the developer from nagvis that we can maintain the opennms-backend in the nagvis-project. But they was not very helpful and interested. I don´t know if there is a possibility to publish the php and NagVis- stuff in a little feature-nagvis branch here in the opennms-project. All you need is a running opennms and a apache with php5. the configuration for the nagvis-opennms-backend and thats it. We have adapted the hoststates from Nagios to the openNMS-Nodestates. NagVis use the NDO (Nagios Database Objects) as backend. It convert all states from flatfiles to a MySQL-Database :) NagVis look at this table every 60 secs and show the states in maps. We have hacked the backend that all Nodestates come from openNMS- database. We display the states based on the nodeid. If interested i can mail the stuff as tar.gz or publish it on the opennms-wiki. Hi, after some chewing on things we've got this list: Sizing and Scaling Migration from Netview Maps Nagvis Graphing Remote Poller Syslog VMWare Monitoring Notifications and Alarms Reporting We have basically two options: Give each item 20 minutes and push as much information around as possible OR give each item longer (possibly combining things like "syslog" and "notifications") but do less. Then - do you prefer to be blasted by presentations without much time to discuss or do you prefer to have 20 minutes presentation and 10 minutes discussion time? We will in any case plan some slack to mingle and discuss. The list is not closed neither, so if you have ideas..shoot :-) best Alex |

Hi, > Then - do you prefer to be blasted by presentations without much time > to discuss or do you prefer to have 20 minutes presentation and 10 > minutes discussion time? IMHO presentations (espacially about use cases) need to have some minutes for questions at all. And even if there aren't so much of them - the audience might need some seconds to let the input get saved into the brain ;-) > We will in any case plan some slack to mingle and discuss. The list is > not closed neither, so if you have ideas..shoot :-) Well, an idea I just had is to do some things in parallel. Some issues address the setup of OpenNMS in general which be of interest to all, somee issues might be more for interest of server guys, some others are more of interest to network device guys.
