Upgrading to a kernel with the same minor version is no problem, since the kernel guys save major changes in user-space tools needed for major-version changes (e.g. 2.4 -> 2.6). You can upgrade RedHat 7.2 with a 2.4.9 or something kernel to 2.4.22 without problems. If you're worried, check the README in the kernel source. It details the versions of user-space tools needed, and how to check. Mandrake 9 is pretty recent, and might even be able to handle a 2.6 kernel. (The major thing that changed with 2.6 is the module system. You need module-init-tools instead of modutils.) In any case, you should be fine with any 2.4 kernel on Mandrake 9. -- #define X(x,y) x##y Peter Cordes ; e-mail: X(peter@cor , des.ca) "The gods confound the man who first found out how to distinguish the hours!
