O.k. I think I did it. The only thing was my origin was called github but otherwise I followed the instructions. git status says "# On branch master nothing to commit, working directory clean" Still have a number of irritating things that needed to be attended to most notably the oddity of fingering placement getting ignored when slurs occur.
