As I see you've already figured out the structure of graphic resources.
Could you share with the community the results in some usable form? May be pack of png or something like it.
You could save a lot of time and nerves for others :)

Sadly, redistributing the game assets would be a copyright violation. I'm working towards a tool that can save png/wav files, but development has been slow on this front. All the information has been shared over the DOS modding wiki, so you should be able to extract everything by yourself with a little bit of hacking.
I can provide limited help on compiling the tools on your platform, however. Sorry if that's not the answer you were looking forward to.
