This was an issue a while ago in the Debian package of OpenJade 1.4, and the solution was simply to comment out the AC_SUBST(LIBOBJS) in configure.in. It was not even being used. This was an older version, certainly not the latest from cvs, but you could try doing the same and see if it works. Or grep through all the files in openjade for LIBOBJS to check if it is being used.
