Further to the below question, I found the following link http://www.tei-c.org/Activities/MI/Tools/osp-releasenotes.html and tried to use the guidelines there. I downloaded the tar.gz wersion of opensp and saved a decompressed version on my hp-ux machine. Then I tried to run ./configure. I can see that the file exists in the current folder, but I still get the following error : interpreter "/usr/bin/sh" not found sh: ./configure: not found.
