#40 Error: Magic Quotes should be disabled

Hi,
I am getting the error above (Error: Magic Quotes should be disabled) with the following comment "Putting quotes and apostrophes into OpenIT will produce unexpected results with Magic Quotes turned on. Visit http://php.net/get-magic-quotes-gpc for more information" when trying to access setup.php.

How can I set this to off? The application is to be hosted on a site where I dont have any particular administrative rights, all I have is FTP access to my web.

Please instruct me on how to solve this.
