Not a good idea.  I recommend you build your own.  The apache builds
that come with Linux distros are notorious for causing problems.

I've never seen that behavior, and it doesn't sound like what you
described (i.e. it doesn't happen at shutdown).  More likely you have
some bad XS code in some module you are using.
