#43 DevIL:Tutorials:Basics

I am trying to run the DevIL:Tutorials:Basics on wikipedia but I am having trouble. I am able to compile and run with 0 errors but when I start it the OpenGL window appears for a split second and then disppears, and I am unable to tell if the image has even loaded or not. Does anyone know what might the cause of this and how I can fix it. Thanks
