Hello, All Sorry about the late notice. We were only able to get the webcast for the OpenG meeting set up at the very last minute, since most of the NI folks were on holiday until today. Information on connecting to the webcast is located here:http://openg.org/webcast There is also an announcement on OpenG.org's homepage: http://openg.org This will be an informal meeting and a good opportunity to discuss issues and get sync'ed up with what's going on at OpenG, and what's in store for 2005! Well, I guess we can ignore my previous failure message. It turned out = it was a full system drive where the temporary directory was located. Maybe a nice feature would be to check for enough disk space on the = temporary volume as the error 6 the LabVIEW Copy function produces (appaerently = because it does a temporary copy of some sort) is not very helpful. In fact I found the problem because I tried to install a few packages = and got the same eror 6 on some write function in the ZIP extraction functions. = This brought me to the point of checking the disk status. Hi Jim, Just tried to download it and I got consistently error 6 in=20 "Copy in OGPM Add Package File to Cache__ogc.vi->OGPM Download Remote Package__ogc.vi->OGC Main Window__ogc.vi". Not exactly sure what might be the problem. The two paths seem legitimite to me with=20 "C:\Documents and Settings\Rolf\Local Settings\Temp\OGPDS8597963.ogp" as temporary download file and "C:\Program Files\National = Instruments\LabVIEW 6.1\resource\OpenG\Commander\db\cache\ogrsc_builder-1.0.0alpha3-1.ogp" as intended target file. Also the target path is only 115 chars long which should be safe below = the Windwos MAX_PATH length limit of 260 chars. The last element path is = only 31 chars long which should be also fine. I did a simple test VI with those paths and replacing the Copy function = with a Move function solved the problem. Seems like copy stumbles over = something in the path which Move does not have trouble with. I use LabVIEW 6.1 for my OpenG work testing. _____ Hello, All The OpenG Builder needs testers to put it through the paces and provide feedback on User Interface features. This is a really cool app that will help you build better quality software products in LabVIEW. If you have already installed the OpenG Commander, then installing the OpenG Builder can be done in just a few mouse clicks. First, launch the commander, update your package list from the internet, download and install the ogrsc_builder (version 1.0.0alpha3) package. There is a cool GUI, lots of documentation, and it looks and feels similar to the LabVIEW Application Builder. So, what are you waiting for? Download <http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/ogpm/openg_commander-2.0-alpha3.zip?down load> the OpenG Commander here Read the OpenG Builder documentation <http://builder.openg.org/> here Regards, -Jim Kring |

Hi, Philippe I agree that we should automate the process as much as possible, so that no one has to maintain the list. I am not sure the best way to do this. My intention was to devise a Package Directory Service framework that was extensible. The first thing that happens when the OGPI GUI starts, is it reads the Root.ogpd (root openg package directory) file located here: <LabVIEW>\project\OpenG Tools\Packaging Tools\_db\ogpds\Root.ogpd This file contains a link to the OpenG Package Directory file located on the OpenG server: http://openg.org/packages/openg.ogpd The Root.ogpd and openg.ogpd files are the same format. The idea is that package directory files could link to other package directory files, in addition to packages. A package directory is simply a URL that outputs a text file of the appropriate format. The URL could just as easily be a CGI, PHP, or other script that generates the output dynamically. For example: http://openg.org/cgi-bin/ogpd.cgi Right now, there is no way to follow "links" to other package directories. The OGPI only follows directory links located in Root.ogpd, but this is something that could be added in the future. -Jim > -----Original Message----- > From: ope...@li... > [mailto:ope...@li...] > On Behalf Of PJ M > Sent: Friday, September 17, 2004 5:02 PM > To: ope...@li... > Subject: Re: ogpi-2.0 concept2 available for download > > Jim et al, > > I have not try that new version yet, but I notice in the > first one that the package list was defined in a file store > on the OpenG website. Jim et al, I have not try that new version yet, but I notice in the first one that the package list was defined in a file store on the OpenG website. Will it not make more sens to use the HTTP download library to get the sourceforge page that list all the package and do some parsing on that page to get at the list of all available package ? That should make it easier to maintain (nobody has to update that list file on the OpenG) cheers Philippe --- Jim Kring <jk...@ja...> wrote: > Hello, All > > There have been a few minor improvements to the > OpenG Package Installer 2.0 > concept. Hej, Thank everyone for this great job !. I have a question. I have some MySQL tools which I have did with using Database Toolkit. I would like to make a OpenG library with them. Is that O.K. to distribute these kind of library without giving the sub-VIs from toolkit? MySQL VIs are called KABUK and includes very simple but good to use process with MySQL on a statistical database. Like generating MEAN, STDDEV or Intansity statistic tables with only 1 VI. Do you think people might need it? Cheers, Ferhat Jim Kring wrote: >Hello, All > >There have been a few minor improvements to the OpenG Package Installer 2.0 >concept. Hello, All There have been a few minor improvements to the OpenG Package Installer 2.0 concept. You can download the new version here: http://openg.org/ogpi-2.0concept2-win.zip The major improvements are 1) the UI only displays only the most recent versions of packages, with a checkbox to show all versions. This makes it a lot easier to select only to "latest and greatest" packages. 2) there is a package download progress bar, which allows you to see that the download is really happening. 3) you can double-click on a cached or installed package to view the package info dialog. Special thanks to Heiko Fettig for his work in adding proxy server support to the HTTP download library. I did not have a chance to add this feature into the OGPI "concept2", but it will surely make it into one of the next releases. Also, I have added the "3D Picture Control" to the package directory on OpenG.org, so you can use the OGPI to download it directly from NI's website! -Jim |

There was a simple ICON Editor available on ni.com. I made some modifications and you now can download the "example code". Just enter ICON EDITOR in the search window from www.ni.com. I think you (we) could "Include" a VI like this VI into the opengtoolkit. An example of a VI-ICON is attached. The best thing is, if you download and have a look at this tool by yourself. You need LabVIEW 7.0 to run this tool. (The programming stile could be a bit better, however I think it works fine) If you have any question about the VI ICON Editor, please ask my. Hello, All I am happy to announce a working concept the OpenG Package Installer 2.0. You can download a copy of this the link below. OGPI 2.0 Concept Download: http://openg.org/ogpi-2.0concept-win.zip This version of the OGPI is a proof-of-concept of two exciting features: Package Cache - The package cache is a location on disk where packages are store locally, until being installed. This allows easy access to packages commonly used. It also facilitates easily switching between configurations of installed packages. Online Package Directory - A list of all OpenG Toolkit packages is visible and users are allowed to select and download packages into Package Cache, for later installation. The actual location of packages is not visible to users. They simply select the package, from a list and press the "Download" button, and it becomes available for installation. The workflow of obtaining and installing packages looks like this: Online Package Repository =={Download}==> Package Cache ==={Install}===> Installed Packages -= Getting Involved =- I am looking for people who are interested in working on this revolutionary LabVIEW software product. We already have most of the pieces, but we need to do more brainstorming on features and have people focusing on the refinement of different aspects of the project. Please let me know if you are interested in joining the OGPI 2.0 team. Once we form the team we will work on defining all of the requirements, and then set a schedule for the completion of our 2.0 release. Regards, -Jim |

PJM just discovered that FreeMind <http://freemind.sourceforge.net/> uses an XML file format. Another cool feature is that it has a java applet for viewing files in a web browser! Check out this example of the web browser plug-in in action: http://freemind.sourceforge.net/Freemind-development.html -Jim > -----Original Message----- > From: ope...@li... > [mailto:ope...@li...] > On Behalf Of Jim Kring > Sent: Saturday, September 11, 2004 11:04 AM > To: OpenGToolkit-Developers > Subject: Mind Mapping Software > > Hello, All > > As a follow-up to our discussion on MindManager and other > mind-mapping software... > > > FreeMind is a free software application that provides > features similar to MindManager. Great! This means NI might adopt the OpenG Package Installer for cross platform libraries. Maybe even integrate it as standard option in new LabVIEW installes. Rolf Kalbermatter |

Hello, All The LabVIEW 3D Picture Control Evaluation Software is a set of tools for LabVIEW 7.1 or later on Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows which uses OpenGL to allow the modeling and rendering of basic 3D scenes for advanced visualization. Originally, NI released this cross-platform software only as a Microsoft Installer (MSI) file, limiting installation to the Windows platform. I have been working with NI to resolve any issues that would prevent the 3D Picture Control Evaluation Software from being distributed as an OpenG package. Originally NI was hesitant, but after we added a license display/accept dialog user interface (as a PreInstall script VI), NI Legal has given their blessing for LabVIEW R&D to distribute this NI software product in an OpenG Package file format, allowing it to be installed on Mac OS X, Linux, and Windows. This is an important step for OpenG, because: * it is a visible example that our tools are needed and useful to National Instruments * we have successfully collaborated with National Instruments to provide a solution to LabVIEW users * it opens the door for more use of the OpenG Package Installer framework by NI In the next few days, you should see picture3d-1.0-2.ogp available on the "3D Picture Control Evaluation Software" page on the Developer Zone at NI.com: http://zone.ni.com/devzone/conceptd.nsf/webmain/9672F024704DE89086256ED10062 0A56?opendocument I will send out another announcement when this occurs. FYI - this will be the first webcast to support browsers on all platforms! To the best of my knowledge, any browser that has Java enabled is supported. I have tested using Mozilla on Win XP, and Safari on Mac OS X. You can test your browser by visiting the "Browser Check" page located here: http://main.placeware.com/support/browser_check.cfm ==> Live Meeting 2003 See you at the meeting. http://openg.org/meetings/ ==> 2004-09-07 Group Meeting Regards, -Jim |
