Yes, I'm planning on the broadcast model for now. I don't see any real need
for handshaking at this point; possibly down the road if the we get into a
situation where, for example, a flight computer needs to communicate with a
navigation display (but that would be a nice problem to have).

The broadcast model allows a sim to toss data out as fast as it can, and the
gauges to render as fast as they can, so that would seem to be the way to
go. I'll take a look at the package you mentioned, thanks for the info.
