Folks, I have prepared a binary release of OpenEV and a bunch of related tools, including GDAL, OGR, OGDI and PROJ.4 utilities. It can be downloaded from one of: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/openev/OpenEV_FW_141.zip ftp://ftp.remotesensing.org/pub/gdal/openev/OpenEV_FW_141.zip I have included the README below. Best regards, -- ---------------------------------------+-------------------------------------- I set the clouds in motion - turn up | Frank Warmerdam, war...@po... light and sound - activate the windows | http://pobox.com/~warmerdam and watch the world go round - Rush | Geospatial Programmer for Rent Open Source GIS/RS Binary Kit for Windows ========================================= OpenEV For Windows 98/NT/2000 ----------------------------- VERSION: OpenEV 1.4.1_FW After unzipping edit the setfw.bat file in a text editor, and change OPENEV_FW_DIR to point to wherever you put the resulting directory tree. A sample image, utm.tif, is provided in the directory demo-data under your install directory. Start OpenEV by running openev.bat in a command window, then select File, Open and double click on the demo-data directory in the left column. Select the image utm.tif and then OK. See the online help for how to use OpenEV (fron the Help menu in OpenEV, note: you must have a html browser such as Netscape or Internet Explorer installed). web page: http://openev.sourceforge.net email: Op...@at... OpenEV was funded in part by Atlantis Scientific (www.atlsci.com) and GeoInnovations (www.geoconnections.org). Other Libraries, and Utilities ------------------------------ o GDAL 1.1.7, including gdalinfo, gdal_translate, and gdaltindex utilities. - Includes ECW, and OGDI raster support. o OGR 1.1.7, including ogrinfo, ogr2ogr, and ogrtindex utilities. - Includes OGDI vector, and GML support. - Includes SoftmapSF.dll (OpenGIS Simple Features for COM/OLEDB provider) (just register it using "regsvr32 openev_fw\bin\SoftmapSF.dll") o Includes sfcdump.exe, an SF OLE DB provider dumper. o PROJ 4.4.4 plus proj.exe and cs2cs.exe o Gnuplot plotting package (run pgnuplot). o OGDI 3.1.0, gltpd, ogdi_import and ogdi_info. o Python 2.0 About this Package ------------------ This package was prepared by Frank Warmerdam (war...@po...) as a handy package containing several related packages, with a maximum of inter-component linkaged enabled. It is considerably more ad-hoc than some of the more formal release packages, but it may have greater functionality than formal releases. This package aspires to be a "tool bench" of GIS/RS tools for the end user. |

Folks, I have prepared a current snapshot of OpenEV for Windows, with the current GDAL. The GDAL support includes OGDI and ECW. This OpenEV is also using Python 2.0. The new distribution doesn't appear to be on the downloads page yet, but it seems to be directly accessable at: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/openev/OpenEV12.zip This distribution does not use a Windows installer. Atlantis will continue producing "commercial grade" releases of OpenEV but I will take the liberty of producing occational interim release ("FW" releases) that are little lower tech. Folks, OpenEV depends on OpenGL and we have had a mixture of experiences with the quality of OpenGL drivers for different cards on the the various supported platforms, including Windows. While we have been able to "fallback" to using the Mesa software OpenGL implementation on unix platforms for some time, we have till now been dependent on the quality of the card vendors OpenGL implementation on Windows NT. Many drivers give the option to not use acceleration, falling back to the Microsoft provided software mode. This is useful on systems where the card drivers cause OpenEV to crash. However, some drivers, such as my own ATI Xpert2000 under Windows NT, do not include any such option, and so till now we have had no way of forcing software mode. However, I have now compiled the Mesa3D library for Windows. If the resulting OpenGL3D.dll file is placed ahead of the Windows NT provided OpenGL32.dll in the path, it is possible to use mesa as a safe software mode. In the 1.0.0 OpenEV configuration this can generally be achieved by placing the mesa OpenGL32.dll in the ...\OpenEV\bin directory. The DLL can be downloaded from: ftp://openev.sourceforge.net/pub/OpenEV/mesa34_opengl.zip In future releases I hope to automate this procedure. Hi Everyone, OpenEV Version 1.00 is now available for download! This release includes mostly bug fixes and should prove to be more stable and robust then previous releases. There have also been a few improvments in this release including the option to load an image as decimated instead of averaged, a better zoom level GUI, and classification support. You can download version 1.00 for Windows 98/NT/2000, Linux, Irix or Solaris from the OpenEV web page: http://openev.sourceforge.net. Steve |

This is a note to introduce a new product "CIETmap" that is being developed by DM Solutions Group with the OpenEV technology. CIETmap is being built for a non-govermental organization, CIET, that focuses on community-driven planning around the world. One of the prime areas of interest is health and epidemiology, for which CIETmap is being developed. If anyone is interested in CIET, more information can be found about the organization at www.ciet.org The goal of the project is to build a freely distributable, stand-alone application for mapping survey-based information. This tool will also integrate some statistical information, and some standard GIS analysis capabilities along with some modelling techniques specific to this project. Currently, we are in the midst of development of Phase 1 of the project that is focusing on interpolation of health statistics. Some of the improvements to the OpenEV core that are ongoing as a result of this project: - addition of some colour selection tools - integration of a raster classification interface - ability to view classifications as a legend in a view window - integration of a modified inverse-distance-weighted interpolation algorithm - extended font support Thanks to Paul Spencer and Frank Warmerdam for their work and diligence at ensuring our efforts are consistent with the long-term growth of OpenEV. I'm looking forward to our company's continued involvement with the OpenEV community and I must add that we have been very impressed with the work that has been done to date on the OpenEV technology. If anyone would like more information regarding the technical developments that are taking place and the impacts this will have on OpenEV, please contact Frank Warmerdam at war...@ho... Folks, I have prepared a new cut of Windows executables for OpenEV, and put them up on source forge for download. This release includes windows print support, merges the menubar and icon bar into the main view windows, and contains more online help. Folks, I am pleased to announce that an initial version of OpenEV (dubbed 0.8.0) for Windows is now available for download from the OpenEV Summary Page or directly from: http://download.sourceforge.net/OpenEV/openev-winexe.zip This should be a self contained application, and includes the Python run time environment, Gtk, GDAL, PROJ.4 and so forth. After unzipping it should only be necessary to modify the OPENEV_HOME environment variable setting in openev\openev.bat to point to the tree. I would appreciate feedback on any problems running it before I promote it more widely.
