The OpenEMR community has released version 7.0.2. OpenEMR 7.0.2 includes new features, improvements, and fixes. A new feature supports electronic health information export, which is required for OpenEMR 7.0.2 to continue to support 2015 ONC Cures Update Certification. OpenEMR 7.0.2 support for modules is improved and with continued support for the following turn-key modules: Telehealth, Fax and SMS, Claims Clearinghouse, Payment Processing, and Prior Authorization. We finally took a break from development to put out new releases of both OpenEMR and FreeB. This release has had a heavy focus on billing improvements. Some highlights are:

* Electronic claims support has been rewritten, is much easier and no longer uses FreeB
* Electronic secondary claims may be generated
* NDC information may now be included in both electronic and paper claims
* Improved support for billing codes with modifiers
* Improved handling of electronic remits (X12 835)
* Improved tracking of claims history
* Added a start date for insurance plans, and logic to reference prior plans when appropriate
* Support for the new HCFA 1500 format
* Experimental support for multiple concurrent login sessions on the same desktop
* Added dates and issues to documents and sorting of documents by date
* Support for individual provider signature images in faxed prescriptions
* Fee Sheet now supports justification and copays
* Option to easily view the patient ID card from the patient summary
* Fixes for known security vulnerabilities
* Many other improvements and fixes

The Advent team has provided insurance companies, HMOs, doctors and hospitals with implementations of sophisticated open source electronic medical record (EMR) system solutions. They also provided custom integration and support for voice over IP (using Asterisk) and SQL-ledger a FOSS accounting backend system. This provided us with a very efficient solution."

OpenEMR 2.7 Beta is a self-installing .rpm file for OpenEMR that works with Mandrake 10 and 10.1.. Improvements in 2.7 include advanced calendaring, digital and scanned document management, ability to change the date of an encounter, improved encounter forms and a superbill report for use with a medical billing company.

OpenEMR will use SQL-Ledger to manage patient accounts, print patient statements, handle EOB transactions and create A/R reports.
