I work with serial comms a lot in my job and in my experience prolific cables and/or drivers have been atrociously unstable and unreliable, I have seen a prolific cable which would work perfectly the first time you connected across it but then once you disconnect it would not work again until a reboot, I've also seen random BSOD's caused by them in Windows, my suspicion lies with the driver. Mind I haven't used a prolific cable in some time (we now insist that all the comms ports being used with our application are "real" comms ports with "real" FIFO's (read 16550A's or later) and they may have improved. > We are talking, here, about the interface between the pl-2303 and only > Brainbay, remember. I've not finished building my modEEG yet so I've not tested prolific cables against brainbay, all I can say is that in my experience in other areas with prolific cables have on the whole been bad. I'd be curious to know what application David was using the cable with/in. |
