It is safe to branch/checkout, but only from the timepoints before Alex
first commit, e.g.:

    cvs update -D '17 Sep 2003 09:57:21 +0200'
    cvs tag -b YOUR_SANDBOX_TAG

until Alex lets us know that he is done.

I am very glad to see this commit happening. Apart of other fixes and
clean-ups it includes MacOSX port, a project that Alex kept pushing
despite towering obstacles. Thanks for your contribution, Alex!
