Hi, my collegue and I have been working on migrating libqtintf from qt 2.2.4 to qt 2.3.0. We have produced a Qt.pas which is compatible with the one provided in Kylix 3 (at least for the delphi part. No HPP_EMIT statements have been inserted, simply because we don't use them). I was planning to create a sourceforge project for this, but then I found this one. We still have to test the qtintf extensively, but on first sight it looks pretty good. I noticed though that there has been not much activity on this project. Is it still alive? kind regards, Z. btw, it's a sad thing that Borland did not give away the source code for this, even though the project is GPLed. |

Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

Hallo Is the OpenCLX project dead? The reason why I ask is that I've written a VisualCLX patch for Kylix 3 = and Delphi 6.02. Perhaps this patch could help you and your developer = team. If the project is alive I can incorporate the patch into your code = base. Regards Andreas Hausladen (http://www.kylix-patch.de.vu unofficial VisualCLX patch) |

The truth is that I am just getting back into working on OpenCLX and will have something to test within 2 weeks. We need to have a discussion on what has been done and what needs are still to be completed. Thanks for sending out the email. I hope we can get the motivation started again. Hi, Can you give me some instruction how to install OpenCLX in Kylix to use and test it. I've never used freeclx before. Is it visual components or only runtime? Till now I now only Delphi. I don't have experienve with Kylix. I've just installed it. Regards, Hristo. |

Just wanted to let you know about my status. I am in the middle of relocating from Atlanta Georgia to Lexington Kentucky. My Linux machine is down until I get settled into the new house next week. Also I will be going back to a dialup connection at home with a T1 at work. I will be getting back to OpenCLX stuff ASAP. Chris |

I am running generic Mandrake 9 with Kylix 3 Enterprise. I do not see why your setup should not be used for testing. We will need to run OpenCLX on many distros. I have VMware 3.2 and will be getting a new HD soon so I can install the many popular distros to test also. Hi Kurt, I've got one question. Have I any specific softwere to install? Now I have Mandrake 9.0 with KDE 3.1 and QT 3.1.1 installed, and Kylix 3 Open Edition Are these good for testing this CLX alpha release? Hristo |

I've mostly completed updating to qt 2.3.0. I've linked against the qt lib as shipped in K3 since I can't for the life of me find my K3 Enterprise CD anywhere. As far as I know, the CD is the only place to get Borland's QT patches from. If either of you have your CD handy, can you email me the files in the patch directory? I decided against going straight to 2.3.2 for two reasons. One is that I want our first file release to be as close to the CLX that is released with Kylix 3 as possible. The second reason is that I'm not by any means an expert on QT. I know CLX pretty well, but only know the rudiments about QT. I'd rather not break something subtly trying to go to 2.3.2 until we have a release under our belts. Chris, what's your take on the language in DEPLOY? I've received no clarification from Borland, so I think we're on our own. I'm inclined to take the DEPLOY file at its word and include the DBCLX and VISUALDB source files as shipped with K3 and use them until/unless Borland hollers. Any objections to this plan? Once we have this done, I think we can create an alpha release. Hristo, this is where you will come in. Once we have the Alpha, I'd like you to compile and run every program you can get your hands on for Kylix and link against our CLX. What would be nice is to try and pick programs that excersize as many different parts of the CLX as possible. If you could start looking around for good programs now, it would help. Kurt. |

I took the make install fix 71233 since I have already did it on my machine to get OpenCLX running. I will check it in tonight. I also assigned the 71233: Update 'make install' to properly install for K3 to both Kurt and myself. We can talk about how we can subdivide it soon. Hi Chris, Sorry you haven't heard from me in a few days. HArd drive died on my main computer and I decided to finally bite the bullet and get the dual athlon I've always wanted. Been a little busy with that. I got your email on what you suggested the task breakdown should be. I don't have it in front of me now though (see above). I'm ok with taking any of the tasks, however, so whichever one or ones you'd like to take is fine. If you'd do me a favour and update the task list on whichever one or ones you'd like to take, I'd appreciate it. When everything is set up again here, I'll get on the remaining. Kurt. Do the following from a terminal: cvs -d:pserver:ano...@cv...:/cvsroot/openclx login cvs -z3 -d:pserver:ano...@cv...:/cvsroot/openclx co OpenCLX This should now have made a directory called OpenCLX in your home directory and filled it will the current snapshot of the CVS. That will get you the source. Here is a link to a great book that will explain CVS. Too much for one email to go over. http://cvsbook.red-bean.com/ The first chapeter of book is downloadable and will give you a good introduction to CVS. I will be up and running tonight with Kylix 3. How do you want to divide up the tasks. You want to do #71233 and then I can work on #71231? Talk more later. Chris |

Hi all, I've added two subprojects to the Task Manager. One for updating OpenCLX for K3, and the other for testing. So far, I have 3 tasks in the update subproject. I haven't assigned them out to anyone yet. I'd appreciate it if you'd go over the tasks and email back on which ones each of you would be able to do. Two of them are fairly simple, one is a little more involved. This will give me a little bit better of an idea of what sort of tasks each of us can take. I haven't placed any items in the Testing subproject yet. I'm still a little bit undecided on how to proceed there. Testing, potentially, could get VERY involved. My thinking right now is that instead of complicated automated test scripts, regression analysis, and really involved QA that it would be a better use of resources to pick a selection of open-source Kylix applications and use them to test out the components. I am of the opinion that we shouldn't burden ourselves with test scripts until we actually start receiving CLX bug reports and start fixing bugs. At this point, we can make a script that identifies the bug in bad versions and tests for it in our 'fix' versions. I'm interested in your feedback on all of this. Especially if you have other ideas on testing, or you have ideas for tasks I missed. Hi guys, I'e read the DEPLOY file in the kylix root directory again. Going over the section under the Enterprise version, what I get out of this is that they are saying the dbclx portion of the CLX libraries are GPL. They call it 'dual licensed' which I take to mean both GPL and Borland "no-nonsense" licensed. What's your take on it when you read it? I've submitted a request to Borland for clarification, but no response yet. Kurt. |

Please make sure, Hristo, that you sent mail to openclx-devel and not openclx-devel-admin. The admin one sends just to me, the openclx-devel sends to the whole list. And I don't actually know Bularian. I was actually trying to say I didn't know the language, but say it in a funny way. Canadian humor can be a little wierd sometimes. :) Kurt. I've added Hristo Hristov to the project and emailed him with instructions on joining the list, so he should be with us any time now. I've set his role as "tester" for now. He has his own project on Sourceforge (firm1control) which appears to be business/financial database package of some sort. It's a little hard to tell, because all the text is in Bulgarian. My Bulgarian is a little rusty. :) In any case, he appears to be proficient enough in Delphi, which will be a big help. Welcome to the project, Hristo, whenever you get this. :) We should probably think a little bit about backups. I'm going to set my PC to download our nightly CVS tarball that the system makes for us. I'd like for each of you to grab it once a week or so too. I don't know that Sourceforge has ever had any sort of failure, but... just in case it's a good idea. Kurt. |
