Glad you came right :)
Thanks Michael. The last win 7 update seemed to do the trick - it's running fine now. I appreciate your help. This will be a wonderful help to our worship team. Jim
Hi Jim. Glad you finding OpenChords useful. Last I checked OpenChords worked on Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10 and Linux Mint. These are the possible things to check: First I would recommend upgrading your churches windows version as Windows 7 updates end in Jan 2020, I'm personally not that fond of Window 10 but it is going to be supported for quite some time. First thing I would check is that dotnet 4.5 installed, as Windows 7 comes with dotnet 3.5 pre installed but not 4.5. To find out if its...

Hi - thank you for an incredible program! It is wonderful. I have it running perfectly on my win 10 machine, but I would like to run it on a windows 7 machine for church. I have installed it, but when I try to run it the cursor "turns" for a moment like it is starting it, but the program never starts. Can you help? Thank you! Jim
Thank you. I will wait for news from you. Ready to make rus.xml based on your eng.xml)

1) Nice idea. Think I'll try this in beta version rather than a full release and see what the response is before I put it into the mainstream product. You could also have multiple songs open at the same time this way :) 6) Nice idea. Will be difficult the first time around, for every other language its just a new XML file
Thanks for the quick response, Michael. 1) This is interesting. Only need to keep the ability to work with files without the extension and the usual Open Song XML. In my personal experience, and this is already several years (and I am grateful to you for that!) three different frames closely in one window, especially on a small screen. Sometimes it seems to me that you can completely divide the application into 2 parts: Song Explorer: for managing sets + presentation mode + base viewer. I think the...
Hi Serg, Glad you finding OpenChords useful :) 1) How about this: I could add a stand alone editor and associate the .openchords file extension to work with OpenChords. A bonus would be to allow file drag and drop. Thoughts? 2) Good idea 3) I know your pain with variable width fonts but I haven't figured out a way to fix this. Another painful thing to work with is when people use TABS for chord placement. 4) I started a WebForms version of OpenChords but I suspended development. To host it you need...
Hello Michael. I continue to work regularly with your program. Thank you for your work! As it turned out, in the editor mode, I lack several functions: 1) The ability to open and edit the single selected file. Quite often I have to open different songs on different devices and in different folders. It is not always convenient to transfer a file to the Data folder of the program from a location, and then back. Of course, I can do it in a Notepad or other text editor. But they do not have the Open...

Hi, Michael I tried to make my fork in Russian language based on your github source ver. 2.3.2 . I wanted such an interface, with a filter by the name of the title, key, tempo and the signature, to me so it is more convenient. . I also changed some other functions a little.

Hi Serg, I ended up changing the "Song list" to only contain the name of each song. The performance of the UI gridview control was making OpenChords very very slow (probably my implementation). So this feature request didn't happen in the end. Sorry
Hi Jon, I have released OpenChords v2.4 which now has an option in "General Settings" >> "Touch Screen Mode" this mode adds buttons on the edge of the screen for changing between songs and scrolling up and down in the song.
Until a tablet version is ready, I'm using an app called GestureSign to map gestures to keystrokes to move to the next song. This works reasonably well with OpenSong in presentation mode. https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/store/p/gesturesign/9n45wqvk2qqw
Hi Jon, I've had two requests for making things a little more tablet friendly. Will see what I can do when I get a chance to dev on OpenChords again.
I'm trying to use the program with my tablet pc, and it is a bit awkward to move between songs without a keyboad attched (which is a little tricky on a music stand). Any chance you could add some forward/backward buttons or a larger menu bar to make clicking easier?
Very good idea. I've logged it github. https://github.com/wolfyreload/OpenChords/issues/13 Allow users to customize what columns are visible in the "songs list" table
Hello, Michael. I continue to work regularly with your program, and I have a few thoughts about a part of the window - the "Song list". Now there's Tittle, Sub-folder, Reference and Author And it's very cool. Is it possible to add a "Key" tab to quickly select songs in one key. Or let give to user configure these "Song list tabs" in the Preferences. with regards, Serg.
Michael, thank you for your quick response. The data from the developer is of great importance. I regret that you do not support <theme>, it might be useful to the worship leaders. But we can live without it.
Looking at the file formats for songs document on the official OpenSong website http://www.opensong.org/home/file-formats I have the following additional tags: bbm - Beats per minute The official file structure has the following tags I don't support and am unlikely to support: theme - I'm unlikely to add support for themes unless there is huge demand alttheme - same as above user1, user2, user3 key_line - I have full text search this isn't needed for me style - used for background images etc However...

Michael Ok, thanks for your consent. Could you make an author list of the main differences from the open song format. It's not urgent but will matter.
Hi Serg, 1) I haven't attempted a multi-language application before. But I'll do some research. 2) At present I don't have full compatibility with the Open Song format but it is a very good format 3) Feel free to publish information about OpenChords kind regards, Michael
Hello Michael. It seems you have succeeded. Nice job! It's not like OpenSongApp, but it's also applicable. Your program is becoming more and more convenient. Michael, I have a suggestion for you. I want to expand your audience in the Russia church and in the Russian-speaking segment of the Internet. 1) if You agree and I manage, then I will help you with a full translation into Russian Interface of your program. I have an acquaintance with good translators. 2) also I want promote the format of Open...
Hi Serg, Here is a new link. Think i've fixed the issue. https://sourceforge.net/projects/openchords/files/Version2.3/OpenChords.Installer.2.3.1.0.exe/download
Yup definately a problem in the code, will try and fix it later today.
Michael, I test this release. If the "Sharp/Flat Key Preference" setting on "Sharp", everything works fine in both "English" and "German" "Key Notation Language". It's really wonderful! Musicians of Russia will not forget you! But if setup the "Sharp/Flat Key Preference" in "Flat", then there are problems in both settings of the "Key Notation Language". The transposition does not work correctly. I'm not a programmer, but I think that the problem is in the code.
Michael, your speed is amazing! Very good that you do it! I will test it immediately!
Hi Serg, Good news, I think I've managed to implement your requests. Here is the link to the installer https://sourceforge.net/projects/openchords/files/Version2.3/OpenChords.Installer.2.3.0.0.exe/download And here is the link to the portable version https://sourceforge.net/projects/openchords/files/Version2.3/OpenChords.Portable.2.3.0.0.zip/download You now have the option to choose between English and German under File >> Preferences >> General Settings >> Key Notation Language. And you can choose...
Thank you. And when can we expect the next release of the program with all the changes?
Hi Serg, I've added two tickets on github https://github.com/wolfyreload/OpenChords/issues/9 and https://github.com/wolfyreload/OpenChords/issues/10 kind regards, Michael
Thanks for your reply, Michael. I have reviewed your link. In the previous message, I really did not express myself) 1)In Russia in chord designation is used German alphabetic system. Without sharps and flat looks like this: C-D-E-F-G-A-H-C. Everything is very simple: the sound "B" is denoted as "H", and "Bb (B-flat)" has a separate designation "B". 2) When transposing through your program, the sound of "H" is not recognized, and hence not transposed. For example higher in pitch by a semitone, now...

Hi Serg, I'm going to need a little bit more information from you. When I transpose the chords I have the following progression. C-C#-D-D#-E-F-F#-G-G#-A-A#-B-B#-C. Could you provide we with the how this would look in Russia and Eastern Europe chords? Once I have this information I will have a look at how complicated it will be to add your feature I did find a link on wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Key_signature_names_and_translations but it has things like C flat which doesn't exist in the...
Hi. I almost accidentally. I looked for programs similar to the OnSong App.
Greetings from Russia. Thank you very much for your work! I use your excellent program to create the base of Russian Worship songs. And I have one big problem: in Russia and Eastern Europe, notes are labeled differently: the note "Bb" is denoted by the letter "B", and the note "B" by the letter "H". Our scale is written "C-D-E-F-G-A-B-H" corresponds to "C-D-E-F-G-A-Bb-B". Such are the generally accepted historical traditions. Same presently popularly NNS (Nashville Number System) where chords are...

Hi Juergen, I'll try add subfolder support for OpenChords song files as this seems to be the biggest issue. Once subfolders work correctly I need to add support for them in the sets. I've made two tickets to github to implement your request please see https://github.com/wolfyreload/OpenChords/issues/5 and https://github.com/wolfyreload/OpenChords/issues/6 kind regards, Michael
We have been using OpenSong for many years now and have collected many songs in 3 different languages. Since a few years I have also used OpenSongApp for Android which also works very well with the OpenSong files and the folder structure and now I found this OpenChords which is very good for a PC. It's very good for editing and adding songs. I saw that it is possible to export song files and set files to the OpenSong directories but I'm disappointed that it does not access song files from any subdirectories...
