Anyway, I actually had to start a database application on Windows
yesterday so your description helps a lot.
I am using MySQL now.
If I understand correctly PostgreSQL has a commercial windows version
http://www.dbexperts.net/postgresql

Not that this is relevant to this mailing list but at some point I hope
there will be a development CD of OOS for Windows.
