First, why does the phone have to be in portrait mode? Standard camera app also requires this but didn't in the past.
Second, your pano operation seems ot cover may a 10° arc. And then ends. I move to the meld with the blue dot and then poof, it's done. No real pano (unlike the camera app).

Restricting to portrait mode makes it easier, although it's on my todo to support moving the phone in any of four directions.
The fact that it doesn't work at all when reaching the next dot seems to be a device specific bug, maybe it's having trouble detecting the correct movements from sensors. Which device is this?

I have an old Nexus 5 device laying around so fired that up to test. It is running on Android 8.1. The Google camera app is v5.1.018.
I first tested pano in the camera app. As I remembered correctly, the Google camera app DID DO pano in horizontal or portrait modes. How it works is that I click the camera start button. Two blue circles are put up to the right & left (like OC), so I can go in either direction. When I move the camera physically and reach the blue circle, I pause while the phone saves info I assume and then when it is ready, it puts up another blue circle for me to move to, repeating the process as long as I want.
Next I tested OC. When you put up the blue circle, moving to the circle does nothingmore except wait for me to press the check mark icon, which then terminates the pano shot. It works the same on the 5X or 3XL.
I next went back to the 3XL. The camera version is 7.5.108. Pano now ONLY works from the portrait position BUT it takes a horitzonal pano that way. Huh? Camera no longer uses the blue circles but replaces them with arrows and you don't have to pause when you hit each circle. The arrows just tell you what direction to rotate the phone to. You can go a long way in rotation. If you go too fast, it will tell you to slow down. I did about maybe 100-120°.
I tried OC again on 3XL. This time, when I reached the 1st circle, I then had another circle appear in the rotation direction. But that was it. Only two circles, then it stopped while waiting for me to click the checkmark. Rotation distance was about 30-40°.

Thanks for the info. I've made a note to check on my Nexus 6 to see how that compares.
