Hello, I really love the features that open camera has, but I've been
having an issue preventing me from taking pictures.
When I press to take a picture I can hear the shutter sound but the app
freezes with the white ring around the screen.
However, the viewport does not freeze I can move the phone and the viewport
updates as normal. I cannot zoom or go to the gallery or use any of the options
    open camera has.
It's really annoying because my default camera app does not have the
advanced features that an open camera does have.
I can only take videos for now.

I have similar problem, but only with rear camera, the app freezes, showing the photo I've just taken. then I open gallery and photos and cannot see any photos! so frustrating, all I can take is selfies, and I neve take selfies! how do I check that open camera is set as default camera?

I experience a similar problem. With the Samsung A52, the app freezes when I try to record a single RAW picture with the Camera2 API. No pictures are saved. No problems with JPG. An important fact is that RAW image support works without problems in HDR mode. A burst with 3 RAW, 3 JPG and 1 HDR JPG images are saved.

Most likely not a problem with Open Camera, since it is an year old report with only a couple of replies. So, most likely a bug provided by Google in an update that has been fixed by some subsequent update.

Not fixed, I'm suffering to this day, though I didn't report it before. I'm on Lineage OS 18.1 on OnePlus 7 Pro.

I have the same problem, lineageos 18 on a Nexus 7. The camera is stuck as soon as i try ti take a picture on any camera app I tried (opencamera, android camera, librecamera, simple camera). I can take a video but if i take it in portrait mode it is recorded in landscape mode with wrong sizes (the image is stretched). Any hint as to where to look for a fix would be much appreciated

I´m having the same issue on lineageos 20 and open camera 1.51.1

sometimes it saves the image though, but the freeze time is really annoying and is up to 30 seconds

Same exact issue, started a few months ago, might be around the shift from Android 12 to 13.
OnePlus 9 with their OS (Oxygen OS).
@mark-h can you please weigh in?

I don't have a device to reproduce this on I'm afraid. General things to check are:

      • Try resetting settings under Settings/Settings manager.

      • Is it affected by changing Settings/"Camera API".

      • Do other third party camera applications work okay?

Hi @mark-h, thanks for taking the time to reply.

It's a tricky issue because it's not 100% reproducible. In fact, it's not very common, but when trying to take a pic and the app does everything except for taking the pic, it can be really frustrating (the viewport is alive and showing current frame content, the white frame before taking a pic appears, it just doesn't take the pic, and doesn't explain why).

I noticed that it is more prone to happens when taking a bright picture at a close up. Nothing hints about over exposure or focus issues, it just hangs without any visual feedback. I'm left watching at the screen, praying for the app to take the photo.
When moving the device away from the photo's subject to the side, the app will release and take the photo.

Thank you for the pointers. I jumped right in, backed up and reset the settings, then restored the settings, took a few pics and nothing froze so far.
This thing doesn't happen often so it'll take sometime for it to reappear.

I'll report back in case it will.

Question: is there any way to enable extended logs, whether as an overlay on the screens or a log file?

        Thanks again.

Same issue... although it only happens when i have manual exposure on or am using exposure bracketing. the screen just freezes when i press click and it shows me the image I'm trying to take on the screen but doesn't save it anywhere. so frustrating indeed 🙂

What device is this? And is this with Settings/"Camera API" set to "Camera2 API"?

Still hapening. In my case I have a realme RMX3760. It happens when I'm trying to do low light photography (max ISO and max Exposure times). It is frustrating, since this is the reason I wanted to use opencamera in the first place.

I have this problem on a Oneplus 7T but only when I attempt to use manual exposure.

Manual exposure + RAW, that is.
