    Hi,
I am new here. I came to Open Camera by searching for app that allows some sort of control over sharpness.
I have the Huawei P9 smartphone, with excellent camera app with Pro Mode, except that it oversharpens jpegs, and there is no way to prevent it other than shooting RAW and post process, which is not always convenient.

Question 1: Although the Open Camera does not have sharpness settings, I assume that the Edge Mode algorithm is just that. Could somebody please confirm it and explain how the options there relate to sharpness.

Question 2: Is there any chance that this app could evolve into a more advanced version with exposure control?
Mobile cameras have fixed aperture, so apperture priority is not possible, but Shutter priority is, as well as Sensitivity priority. The ability to control shutter speed is essential for sharp pictures of moving objects and people.

      1. The exact behaviours will vary by device, so best to test it and see. You are right that the Edge Mode algorithm control could be affecting the sharpness post processing - maybe test the Noise Reduction algorithm too that's also under "Processing settings".

      2. Manual shutter speed is supported (if the device supports it), from the exposure menu ("-/+" button) change ISO to "M" to enter manual mode, then you can control with the sliders.

My name is Josef, and after trying about two dozen different user names and passwords I gave up.
They are all taken !!! Unbelievable.

Josef again - I must correct my original post.
I found that both ISO and Shutter speed control is there, but it is hidden behing Exposure compensation.
I am sorry, but nobody with years of serious photography experience would look for it there.
It needs to be brought out on top.
The interface is good for people with sharp eye-sight and tiny fingers. Too difficult to see and operate, specially in sunlight.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll have a look at making the on-screen icons bigger.

Originally the ISO icons were on the popup menu with everything else, though that seemed to make it more convoluted (going to one menu to change to manual mode, then another to change the exposure).

Some camera applications have manual mode as an entirely separate photo mode - though I want manual mode to be an independent setting (so that, e.g., people can still use manual modes with modes like HDR, burst, focus bracketing).

Possibly I could have an auto/manual button on the main screen - though I'd still rather keep manual focus with the focus modes...

Every serious camera has a fully automatic mode (some have several - portrait, landscape, sport etc), manual mode, and several semi-automatic modes, like Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority, ISO Priority.
Manual mode is used to create special effects.
The semi-automatic modes are used by serious photographers most of the time. With Shutter Priority, you set your shutter speed, and the camera works out and sets the ISO automatically for correct exposure.
This is what your app should have if you want to get on the path of simulating serious cameras.. With your app it is possible to set shutter speed, but it is in the wrong place mixed up with exposure compensation, and is very awkward.
And the automatic adjustment of ISO tis completely missing.

Automatic exposure is not application specific, it is a hardware feature controlled by CONTROL_AE_MODE, it is either ON or OFF. It has some hint in SceneMode.
For example SceneMode will adjust ISO (Landscape has different ISO than Action).

I was wondering if it can be "faked" and not computed in hw, but somehow in sw. It obviously cannot be done in automatic mode and then retrieve value of the other property (ISO vs. shutterspeed), but since there is preview I think it can somehow be calculated from histogram. Something like this:

      1) Use automatic mode and retrieve computed ISO and exposure time
      2) Compare that values to one that was set manualy and adjust the other non-locked param (it is not necessary at this moment)
      3) Take picture from preview
      4) Compute histogram
      5) if histogram is OK then all is set right, otherwise adjust non locked param and go to 3)
      6) Take picture with computed params

And it doesnt have to be done when taking photo but maybe in Preview.

Does not have any effect on my Xi Redmi Note 9T 5G,( OS 11).

Auto shutter with manual (locked) ISO would be useful. It has been discussed here in several string but the conclusion seems to be that it is not possible without too flimsy tweaking.

It only requires: Switching to full auto, retrieve ISO and EXPO, do basic calculation, switch to full manual, set the calculated parameters, fire.

Its a pity this forum does not allow editing.
I think you are mixing exposure modes, focusing modes, scenery modes, metering modes, special effects modes etc. These are all separate things and need separate screens for setting the relevant parameters. You seem to be mixing things up.
But it all depends on what you want to achieve. I look at it from the point of view of a serious photographer coming from semi-professional DSLR, expecting the same philosophy of menus and setting things out.
But other people may be happy with the app as it is.

Does current version has its own auto exposure control algorithm?
