(1) Which areas does Open camera's exposure meter sample? Is it spot, center-weighted or multi metering?
(2) After I tap on the screen to select my own spot metering location, how do I revert back to the standard Open camera metering without taking a picture?
PS: These questions are not connected to the exposure compensation slider.

Unfortunately the only way to reset to that mode is to pause/resume (i.e., when you go to settings or homescreen, and back) - I realise this is quite an oversight, it's been on my todo to change this in some way.

Tapping the screen to select spot metering location has ceased to work on my Samsung J7 Neo, which is running Android 9
This might be the result of a system upgrade
Any hints?

By default I don't tell the camera API anything about metering - I believe this means it's up to the device to choose (see https://developer.android.com/reference/android/hardware/Camera.Parameters#getMeteringAreas() ).
