I'm sorry if this is covered already. I did search but could not spot anything that sounded quite the same.
I have a Motorola G7plus running Android 10. I do have a Gallery App available, it is Simple Gallery. OpenCamera is version 1.48.3

For a while now, when tapping the thumbnail in the bottom right of the OpenCamera screen, I get the response "No gallery app available". If I leave OpenCamera and go into Simple Gallery, I often find that the photo I have just taken is not there - but it does appear after I tap around a bit. I'm not sure whether I manage to click something effective or whether it is just time passing.
I have looked through the OpenCamera settings but find nothing relevant. Photos are all sent to the SD card and they successfully arrive there (at some point in time).
I recognise that this could be a problem with Simple Gallery, or Android or my phone etc. However, can anyone give me a place to start looking - or even better, a solution!
    Thank you

Same here. Fairphone FP3, Android 10 (updated yesterday).

The stock Camera app finds a heap of gallery-ish apps, including Simple Gallery, so this definitely looks like an OpenCamera problem.

In my opinion it is Yet Another Stinking Annoyance a' La Google. In Nokia 6 phone, that had Android 9.0 OS, no response was shown, just nothing happened when I tapped the thumbnail. I also have the 'Simple Gallery Pro' app and I have disabled the "Photos" app that is a stock app from Google (because my photos & videos are mine and only mine). Then I had the OS of that phone professionally degraded (because another Annoyance a' La Google that crippled the 'Road Recorder PRO' app), down to to OS 8.1.0, and now also the thumbnail in Open Camera opens the 'Simple Gallery Pro' app. In another Nokia 6 phone that has the OS 7.1.2 I have the very same setup, and thumbnail in Open Camera opens the 'Simple Gallery Pro' app.

      BR, Timo

Same here - also Open Camera + Simple Gallery on a FairPhone 3 running Android 10. Came here to find the answer and found only this thread...

Changing the 'Save location' in Open Camera to be another folder and changing it back to what it was does help in case the SD card is changed. I'm guessing that OS update and especially OS upgrade possibly could mess up Android's security haystack, so perhaps it is worthwhile try to the above in any case as there is nothing to lose.

Clearing the app storage & cache in Android Settings/Apps for Open Camera and Simple Gallery could possibly help also.

Same problem here with OpenCamera+Simple Gallery on Fairphone 3/Android 10. Is there anything we can do to help the developer diagnose & fix this?

Adding to this: Clearing cache and setting the storage location again doesn't fix this. Should also note I save to the SD card. The problem pops up intermittently

I think i've found a solution to this on my Fairphone 3, with the problem being android 's Media scanner. When Opencamera fails to open the gallery app, open the stock camera app and see if it shows the most recently captured photo saved to the external SD card.

      • If the stock camera app DOESN'T show the most recently captured photo, you probably have the same problem as me - download a Media Rescanner from F-Droid and have it rescan your pictures folder on the external SD card. After it finishes scanning, launch OpenCamera and try to access the gallery from there, it should now work.
      • If the stock camera app DOES show the most recently captured photo, you do not have the same problem as me and this might not work...

Hi, the following may help with many weird issues:

        Firstly:

Go to the 'Settings' / 'Settings Manager'
Do 'Save settings' giving it a temporary name , e.g. 'temp', so the option to restore to that configuration will be available.

        Secondly:

Go again to the 'Settings' / 'Settings Manager'
        Do 'Reset settings'

Then snap a photo to see if the problem is solved. If so, then all the configurations need to to manually redone and the 'temp' configuration need to be deleted. The 'Settings manager' does not allow to delete (nor rename) any saved configurations, so using any FileManager app navigate to: /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/net.sourceforge.opencamera/files/backups/ and delete the file 'temp.xml'.

I have the feeling that this helps with the media scanner issue also, it seems that open camera commands the built in media scanner to run when the configuration is reset.

It is beneficial to store a known working configuration of Open Camera, I keep many, for different shooting situations.

Just leaving this in case it helps other people .
I had the exact same issue with Open Camera and Simple Gallery. It's working fine if I save my photos to the internal storage but as soon as I switch to SD card, Open Camera isn't able to open Simple Gallery anymore.

I've tried the different tips written above: Tried SD Scanner Rescan from the F-Droid store then uninstalled it because I thought it was not working. I also reset my settings (without creating a backup beforehand) but nothing worked until... I restart my phone!

TLDR; RESTART YOUR PHONE AFTER TRYING ABOVE TIPS !

I don't have an SD card and it still doesn't work for me. I disabled Photos and only have Fossify Gallery and Opencamera doesn't seem to recognise it
