I have Samsung Galaxy S8+ and recently upgraded to Android 8.0. Now, when Use Camera2 API option is enabled (so I can manual focus) the video camera freezes upon trying to record. Used to work with previous Android version

On the galaxy S9 open camera freezes if Camera 2 API is enabled. You have to force close. Seems like this is a samsung problem. Mark.... any way you can help?

I have the same issue with my S8 recently upgraded to 8.0.

Thanks for the info. Does this happen with other third party camera applications using Camera2? E.g.:
A Better Camera: enable Settings/General settings/More/"Use Camera2 interface".
Snap Camera HDR (Trial): enable Settings/Other/"Use Camera2 API".
AZ Camera: this uses Camera2 by default.
Footej: this uses Camera2 by default.

in A Better Camera on my S8 on 8.0 it seems that Camera2 is enabled by default, the only relevant option is to force Camera1. If I look at the camera parameter it reports "Camera2 API: full". Recording a video to the SD card does work in ABC.

Happens to me on Galaxy S9 Plus T-Mobile when clicking to start video
Open Camera camera functions as expected.
When I switch to video and start, app freezes with the current screen preview.
If I close the app and reopen, I get a gray screen with no controls, or preview, or funtion.
The default camera works during this time.
Only a phone restart will bring back Open Camera to it's launch state.
I have also uninstalled/reinstalled OPen Camera with no change.

No idea if it will work, please let me know! And if it does work, please clarify whether the standard Open Camera (1.43.3, e.g., from Google Play) was crashing with video?

Thanks Mark for the upload. I've just tested it: Camera2 API NOT working on Samsung Galaxy S7 (with Android 7.0).

seems working...
rapid test : I have enabled Camera2 Api ....put Higher Video res (2880x2160)... even tried 50Mbps ..and it works...
I've also try the new 120fps (slow) with no success ...perhaps its really not compatible with the devixe (work on Samsung cam)
I've forgot: test on Samsung galaxy s8+
thanks for all the work you've done

Thanks for the info! It's a shame the new 120fps doesn't work (it seems to be something that only works on some devices - fine on my Nokia 8, not on my OnePlus 3T). But the main thing for now is to fix the problem of video not working at all since Android 8 for Samsung devices.

Samsung Note8. Oreo
With API settings turned on video freezes.
With API settings off, video works

Thanks - just to confirm, is your device one where video doesn't work with the standard Open Camera release (e.g., latest on Google Play at the moment)? (It's possible this issue only affects some Android 8 Samsung devices.)

I got the Samsung A520F too (updated to Oreo), and with the standard Open Camera release it crashes when starting to record a video. But tried the one that you liked above and it works (tho it freezes for a sec).

I've uploaded a test APK at https://sourceforge.net/projects/opencamera/files/test_20180430/ which tries one of the ideas at https://stackoverflow.com/questions/49533401/getting-an-error-on-android-8-on-a-samsung-device-using-scameracapturesession .
