Hello mark,
photos taken in portrait mode are signed with the orientation "6"rotate 90, so
different pic-viewer display this portrait taken photos landscape.
Please set the orientation of portrait taken photos to "1" similar the landscape taken.
Or optional selectable in settings
for better understanding: http://www.impulseadventure.com/photo/exif-orientation.html

i think a different behavior is more usefull.
See attached screenshot, if i copy landscape and portrait taken photo to the desktop of windows, the orientation of the portrait taken photo is displayed wrong.
Most imageviewers correct it, but not all!
For example take a look on the app "cymera", both landscape and portrait have the same orientation (1)top left
I think I see - some cameras handle the rotation by setting an EXIF tag rather than rotating the image itself, but this isn't well supported, including by Windows preview ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2001954 ). If Cymera doesn't have this behaviour, then I imagine that app is detecting such cases and manually rotating the image.
I can add an option to do this - I have added this to my TODO list.

I am using OpenCamera app and i am facing the same above issue. The orientation changes automatically while taking pictures. Kindly advise the status of this orientation fix.
Thanks in advance.

The EXIF tags that are applied for orientation are set by the device/camera driver, and the behaviour may vary - e.g., on my Galaxy Nexus, the image is rotated without the EXIF tag being set (see http://developer.android.com/reference/android/hardware/Camera.Parameters.html#setRotation(int) ).
Do you mean that it is working incorrect on your device, or you want different behaviour?
