Stuck in "immersive mode" with all functions hidden and unable to access

When activating "immersive mode" which provides full screen experience and hides all toggles from the screen, I'm unable to disable this setting once initiated. Which is a real problem because it means I no longer have acess to any of the functions of the app to record, stop or take photo.
This problem has existed across different models of phones for me so I believe it should be easily replicated.
And the issue expands into other apps that use the same template such as "Open Your Cam and Hedge Cam"...
When I go into immersive mode and hide everything, I'm unable to exit back out or acess any of the functions on screen because everything is stuck hidden away. I've tried scrolling and tapping the screen, exiting the app and opening it again, clearing cache and none of those work. The only way to fix it has been to uninstall and reinstall, delete data or completely avoid the setting in immersive mode.
Which devices and Android versions is this on? Tapping the screen or dragging from the top should exit immersive mode - it does seem to be device specific as unfortunately I can't replicate it on my devices.
