JPEGs are 4MB despite compression

Whether I set "image quality" to 100% or 50%, all JPEGs end up at 4MB. Choosing PNG (lossless) results in a smaller file, around 2.5MB. I'm using a ~2MP 1080 resolution.

I first noticed this when enabling the Camera2 API when I was on LineageOS 18.1, however I've since switched to /e/OS 1.20 and I get the 4MB file with and without the Camera2 API. Any thoughts on why my JPEGs are always the same size and larger than PNGs would be appreciated. I've tried toggling as many settings (keeping a 1080 resolution) as seem relevant and cannot get a smaller file. Yes 4MB is not huge, but before, 1080 JPEGs were generally about 500kb with Open Camera, and the fact they are always 4MB seems like no compression is happening.

    Thanks!

Same problem here. I bought a Galaxy S22 and installed Open Camera, then set the resolution to 3840x2160 and quality to 90%. The images are huge, about 12 MB.

By using the old Camera API, the image size is 1 to 2 MB, just like in my old Galaxy A40 with the Camera2 API and same resolution and quality.

Same here, Galaxy S10e 3024x4032 12MP, all files with 17.44Mb. Sometimes when shot with Zoom it works and compact to 2~3Mb.
