Focus distance can only be change directly (via a slider) in manual (camera2 only) mode. In auto focus mode, you can touch to focus, which will also set the focus and metering region to where you touch.

Do you know Bacon Camera? it has manual controls of the camera without using API 2.0. Do you have any idea on how to implement manual controls without API 2.0?

I do - it seems to access the camera drivers directly (though I'm not sure how to go about doing this), this also limits it to just a few devices as far as I can tell.

Similar question here - would be great to be able to prevent refocusing. E.g. I touch a part of the image and wait for the auto focus and then press a button so the auto focus will no longer activate until the picture is taken.

See either the locked focus mode (won't focus at all unless you touch) or auto focus mode (will only focus when you touch, or before taking a photo)? Available from the three-dots menu, below the flash icons.

I saw those focus options but that's not exactly what I would like. Locked focus is good in principle but the button is too deep down inside the menu (need two clicks to turn it on, which is too much when trying to keep focus). It should be right next to Exposure Lock.
Auto focus on my trusty S4 will focus but when I press the trigger, it will again try to focus, loosing precious time and possibly getting the focus wrong just before taking the image.

Hello, in 2018, using moto z, can't get auto focus to work. It is also obvious that the camera treats the focus settings more as a suggestion than anything else. It clearly will change focus depth while in that mode. So annoying camera, stop trying to be smarter than me and just sit in place for a moment ! I'm trying to take a picture.

The default mode in Open Camera is continuous focus, but it may be that on some devices this doesn't work too well. If you switch to "auto focus" ("a" on the three-dots popup menu), focusing will only happen when taking a photo, or touching the screen.

Hi!
Is there a way to implement manual focus without using camera2 api? I would like to use seekbar to focus farther or nearer.
Thanks!
As far as I know, manual focus distance isn't support by the old camera api.

Hi mark!
Thanks for the reply, can I manually adjust the focus and metering on auto focus?
Thanks!
