I got quite used to using the torch flash mode for taking photos in dark places but after loading Open Camera on my new phone (same model as the one I lost!) the flash setting is no longer a menu but a series of modes with no torch mode. I have tried setting the API to both original and Camera2, but no difference. I have also tried various focus modes, also no change. Is this a regression? Is my new phone missing something the old one had? Am I missing something? Some other phone setting? Some ($#Q*%) permission setting?

This might be Settings/On screen GUI/"Show flash icon" - try disabling that? (The option to cycle through flash options doesn't support torch.)
Thanks Mark for the very helpful suggestion. Disabling "Show flash icon" in "On screen GUI" restored the access to having the torch on.
