    Hello,
I tried to see how I could use OpenCamera to take images in 1:1 format. I can choose a corresponding resolution on my device (Nokia 8), actually 2976x2976 resolution. There is also an option to display a square guide for cropping, which seems to work (appears square when displayed with a non square resolution).
However, when I choose the 1:1 resolution, the display remains rectangular, despite wysiwyg mode, and despite the square guide does not appear (only case where it does not appear). What could cause this behavior?
Hope that could be solved, because it would make OpenCamera perfect for me!
In case this is useful, I use the camera2 api.

The reason why the on-screen display remains rectangular when using 2976x2976 photo resolution is because unfortunately the Nokia 8 doesn't have a "preview" resolution that's 1:1 (preview and photo/video resolutions are separate - Open Camera chooses the one with closest aspect ratio).

However, you are right that it's odd that the crop guide doesn't show in such situations. It's a bug, I will hopefully fix in next version.

Thank you very much for the clear answer Mark! That will not prevent me from using Open Camera, I like it too much!

Hello Mark, while OpenCamera is since ever the best i still don't get why it's not yet possible to shoot SQUARE VIDEOS which are so important for posting in social media , both Facebook and Instagram consider now the square format like the best to choose.

    can you please explain?

    thanks
    Paolo :)

    Hello,
Just to say that since the last update, the crop guide (that I use for 1:1 format) appears well (and square) when in landscape position, but not in portrait position (lines are not visible on both sides, and they appear at the top and bottom whatever the resolution chosen). Do you think it can be corrected?
    Thanks!

Thanks for letting me know! I've pushed out an update (1.49.1) which should hopefully fix this.

The available resolutions/aspect ratios are those provided by the device, so this can vary I'm afraid.

    Hi Mark,
I reuse my old thread as this is somewhat related:
    1) I noticed that now, in wysiwyg mode, not only borders showing the frame are shown, but the part outside the frame is darker (although not completely black). This is GREAT. Thank you very much for that!
    2) when in wysiwyg mode, the display seems a bit blurry, which is not the case when the wysiwyg mode is not activated. Is there a reason for that? (still Nokia 8, last version of the app, square format 2976x2976 resolution).
Thank you very much for any answer, and by the way have a great 2023 year!
    Joël
