I was thinking about how one could possibly change the bracketing UI to make bracketing simpler and more fool proof. I came to the conclusion that if the user tells the camera the maximal allowed between neighbouring exposures, then the app should in theory have all info it needs to be able to automatically come up with a set of exposures that captures all pixels within that spacing. That is: it could create a set of exposures such that for every pixel there is at least one image where this pixel is neither clipped nor further away from the clipping point then the specified spacing.
