Would it be possible to add an option to focus by pressing the shutter, and then shoot by releasing it (regardless of which button is chosen for shutter), like in many older phones? My Galaxy S4 with 4.4.2 Kitkat had this in its stock camera.
I updated into 8.1 Oreo (LineageOS 15.1) and the stock camera in it doesn't have this feature, so I started looking for alternatives. Open Camera looks otherwise quite nice, and at least for me would be the solution should it have that feature I specified.
Thanks, and keep up the good work! :)

Thanks for the suggestion - is there a reason why the existing focus options aren't preferred (continuous focus, or auto-focus when taking a photo)?

[OP] For example if I want to focus onto something and then recompose, it would be easier to do if the focus/shutter works similar to non-phone cameras, instead of touching the screen to focus and then find the shutter button. As an amateur DSLR shooter I find phone cameras and touch screens more or less frustrating for the job.
Also if you need to take the picture in precise moment, it must be done by focusing beforehand, so the camera is ready to shoot with minimal lag when it's time. Focusing takes easily 2 seconds, also when the continuous focus doesn't happen to be in focus in that moment you need it.

That makes sense. Also just to clarify - is this controlling with a physical shutter button on your phone, or volume key, or using the on-screen take photo button (or all of them)?

[OP] I think this option should be available for whatever button is used for shooting. I would mostly use the on-screen touch button though, because the location of volume keys in the bottom left corner when held horizontally isn't the best possible for taking photos.
Also to clarify, when focusing in this mode, it should then be locked for as long as the button is held.

I second this suggestion! It would improve usability majorly, especially when taking pictures with just one hand. Plus it gets you a lot closer to "real" cameras, where focusing is done by half-pressing the shutter button. A touch screen is not always the perfect solution, ui wise.

I agree.
Anyways, I'd like a mode where you focus on press, maintain that focus no matter what i do, then take an immediate shot when i release. When I say "immediate" I mean as fast as possible, with no software delay in the background. My phone's (Nexus 6) image taking always seems to lag behind my hyperactive children's hilarity.

I've added this to my todo.
