Dear Mark, thank yo ufor the great app. I'd like to suggest a change in behaviour for your consideration:

Camera app should always open as active camera instead of image preview, if image has been checked previously. Currently, when the user chooses to view the image taken, switches focus between the apps, the camera app re-focuses with the preview of the image taken. Due to the nature of the app (camera) and not being a gallery app, it should dismiss the preview of a still image or even settings menu and instead show a preview on the camera (that is live image).

    Thank you for your consideration.

I don't understand, can you rephrase? E.g., I don't understand "when the user chooses to view the image taken, switches focus between the apps, the camera app re-focuses with the preview of the image taken."?

I try to describe the individual steps and i hope tpo get a better understanding of my issue.

    Open camera.
Camera preview is on and libve image is presented to the user.
    Take a photo(s).
Open the last photo take by clicking the small thumbnail in the bottom right corner. (That is what I called "to view the image taken")
Put the camera app in background, switch on other apps.
    * Return to the Camera app. It does not matter, whether app cards are used or the Camera icon is pressed.

    Current behaviour:
The Camera app opens as it had been left: The last photo is show, Still image is presented to the user. I'm most of the time confused: Is the camer working correctly? What am I looking at? Oh, the last image. Get away (with an extra click or two.. because there is a submenu, right)!

    Expected behaviour:
Live image, that is a camera preview is presented to the user.

I do not mind, if e.g. the Gallery app remains presenting still images... that is its job. But presenting the last still or any still image is not the job of a camera. Camera shall be always ready to take a picture. Camera = Preview and ready to shoot.

Or better(?), set a timer: if the the user returns to the Camera app within 10 seconds, the still image would be still there. But, the user reopens the camer app in longer time period, camera preview is presented as default.

"Return to the Camera app. It does not matter, whether app cards are used or the Camera icon is pressed."

Strange, for me on Galaxy S10e Android 10 launching from the homescreen (or application drawer etc) returns to the camera preview (and only returning via "recent apps" leaves it in gallery mode). So this may be a device specific issue, what device do you have?

@vighnaxmach, when you open the last picture, it actually opens another app (a gallery or image viewer) inside Open Camera, then when you toggle to another app and back to OC, it still have the gallery showing the last photo. If you close OC (ie. remove it from "recent apps", or Force Stop it), it should reopen with preview.

Yes, it does reopen with preview after closing by Force stop.

In my opinion, OC shall close the Gallery Preview by itself, when sent to background. In any case, it is a Preview, so no Edit or other processes are available there.
