First off, thank you for all the hard work on this amazing app—it's packed with features and has been a great tool for many of us!
I wanted to share a small usability issue that’s caused me a bit of heartache: more than once, I thought I was recording a video, only to later discover I had taken a still photo instead. Those missed moments are tough to lose, especially when they were meant to be captured in motion.
Many camera apps use a clear tab-style selector (e.g. Photo, Video, Portrait, etc.) where the current mode is visibly highlighted. This helps users instantly know what mode they’re in before hitting the shutter.
In OpenCamera, however, the mode icon next to the capture button shows the opposite of the current mode—so when I’m in Video mode, I see the Photo icon, and vice versa - because its logic is "Clicking the Photo Symbol changes to the Photo mode". I understand this might be a clever way to toggle modes without cluttering the UI (using a single button), but it can be quite confusing in practice.
Would it be possible to make the current mode more visually obvious? Maybe a label, a highlighted tab, or even a subtle color change could help clarify what mode is active.
Thanks again for considering this! I really appreciate the thoughtful design behind OpenCamera and hope this suggestion can make it even more intuitive for everyone.
Best regards,
Michael
