I often use exposure compensation in both photo and video - also while shooting - as this is an easy way to achive great images. But the dialog and slides take up all the center of the screen, which is where I usually have the objects that I want to expose correctly.

I suggest that the dialog itself is made as small as possible, while still containing the slider, and that it is moved away from the center, either to the top or bottom. A completely transparant dialog would be great.
Today the dialog also contains an ISO selector and fine tuners. Perhaps I am asking for a completely new dialog with only exposure compensation - perhaps only the fine tuners.

Thanks for the feedback. Note that in the next version it'll be a bit more compact at least, but I've made a note to see what I can do in future.

Really glad to hear this, as this is also my number one feature request. The central position is really awkward.
For now I have started using Hedgecam 2, that seems to be built from Open camera. It has massive options for GUI configurations. There one can set the locations, size and separations between sliders.
I definitely prefer it/them close to the shutter button as it then only shows at the edge of the frame and it also makes it much easier to operate with the shutter finger (without moving the hand).
    Great work, thanks!
