Suggestion to help taking better pictures at night

    Hello,

Small intro - Low ISO pictures tend to have better quality, less noise. At high light, auto ISO will use the lowest option available (usually 100) and the picture likely won't have that noise.

Here's the problem: In lower light scenes, auto ISO go higher and higher, adding a lot of noise in order to illuminate the scene. To try to lessen the problem, one can both increase EV and turn on flash. While auto settings certainly takes EV and flash into account, it is still very possible to get beter results by locking ISO to lower values, turn flash on and rise EV.

The problem here is that the screen goes dark until you focus, which turn the flash on, and then you have the time from flash to check if the position is correct. Turning the light on continuously isn't good either, as people will get confused and obfuscated by it.

So here's the suggestion - an option to "enlighten" the screen artificially when the flash is turned on and ISO is fixed. One way I reckon this could be done is by rising ISO while the person is still focusing/positioning, and, when the shutter is pressed, switching back to the fixed value.

    Thanks in advance

Disclaimer - English is not my main language, so, sorry for any mistakes. Also, this is a suggestion based on my experience, sorry if I got some theory wrong, and feel free to correct me.

Thanks for the suggestion, that sounds an interesting idea. A variation might be that the option just leaves the preview running in auto ISO mode (when flash is turned on), and switch to the manually selected ISO when taking the photo. This would be easier to implement and give better results (since it'd be using the camera's own routines rather than trying to reimplement this).

    Thanks for reading the suggestion!
I believe that the way you said would be great :)

We need a proper night mode.
With proper photo processing, all these tweaks can slightly improve but photo quality at night still was worse than todays camera apps.

could imagine a min max setting for the iso/exposue.. when making timelapses(sequence of photos) of the dusk the iso raises to insane values .. id rather have an option to cap iso at some point and auto correct via exposure time.. the app has those features but the limits for exposure are too low imho(1/17s) on my device. so having settings to adjust ranges would be great.. thanks! best cam app! <3
