To avoid patent dispute, Black Magic Design implemented what appears to be a JPEG based video mode, where they mapped the bayer values through to the normal component colors of pixels 4:2:2 etc) to make the bayer information recoverable. There seems to be previous software which tries this too. It seems like a simple enough thing to ensure the waveforms hit the values of the original bayer, thus preserving them in 4:2:0, if yiu have access to direct a JPEG 1 or video engine to do so.
