The zoom setting is lost when I tap on the small inset image on the viewfnder screen to see the last shot in a photo viewing app.
On the other hand, the zoom setting gets retained between shots and it isalso retained if the viewfinder is set to pause after taking a photo. However, it will get reset if you open a photo viewer.
I think this is a bug. I hope it's not difficult to correct!
