I bought a Nothing Phone (1) and noticed that 2 third party camera apps i tried (open camera and ultracorder) had much less quality on videos in low light situations. At first i thought the stock camera app had access to some kind of better quality stream. The results of the third party apps reminded me of a lower bit rate video, but then i tried Filmic Pro that allows to choose the amount of denoising done by the ISP or even turn it of completely. I was able to match the image quality to the stock video app by reducing the noise reduction level.
You can see some examples here:
For some reason, both open camera and ultracorder choose a high noise reduction level. Even scenes with good lighting have a little less detail than the same scene recorder with the stock app or Filmic Pro.
One funny thing about open camera is that the preview actually shows a good quality stream but when i press record it switches to a smudgy mess. Ultracorder shows a mess all the time.
