    Sup Joe,

    I tried to load the Developer studio software on my laptop and I keep
    getting errors about a file not being here. I first installed .NET then
    loaded the component update, and then tried to load the first file on the
    developer studio zip file. What I did was I unzipped the entire zip into my
    temp directory and executed from there. But I got too many errors on files
    not being located. I'll try again later tonite and I'll email you some
    errors. If you have any ideal what is wrong let me know. Thanks

    Wilson

      Hey Wilson,

      Installing .Net and VS.Net was a headache and a half.  Everything looks
      stable now, but noticeably slower.  Here's what I found based on my
      experiences with W2K Pro:

      if( successfully installed .Net Framework &&
          successfully installed Visual Studio.Net ) {

        ignore this email;
        System.exit(0);

      } else {

        try {
          if( already installed .Net Framework &&
              need to install Visual Studio.Net ) {
            uninstall .Net Framework first; // IMPORTANT!!!
          }
          unzip Visual Studio.Net CD1 to temporary dir;
          unzip Visual Studio.Net CD2 to same temporary dir;
          unzip Windows Component Update CD to alternate dir;
          run setup.exe in first temporary dir;
          follow instructions;
          point to WCU dir when prompted for CD;
          }
        } catch( InstallorUninstallException e ) {
          boot to SAFE mode;
          cross fingers and attempt clean software install;
        }
        System.exit(0);

      }

      yeah, i had the same errors, but i finally (after a few tries) figured out
      that i had to unzip both files to the same directory.  the install seemed to
      have gone fairly well otherwise, but now when i try to open any ms office
      product, it just closes back up after a few seconds.  i'm not sure if i
      should try to reinstall office 2000 again as that _might_ undo some of the
      component updates.  not sure tho.  btw, i have windows me.  and, i can't
      print anymore.  giving me some sort of print spooling error and some sort
      off .dll prob, too.  i'm considering slicking the hdd, but only as a last
      resort.

      hi all,

      well, i slicked my hdd, installed win 2k (used to have win me), installed
      office 2k, then the component update thingy.  still, when i open office 2k
      products (word, excel, etc.) it shows for a few seconds, then closes back
      down.  i know Burt is having this problem.  anybody else?  i had the same
      problem with win me.

      if it is at all possible, if anybody emails any kind of document, please
      convert it to a plain text file for me.  else, don't worry about it.

      thanks,
      scott

      This may sound stupid, and i haven't installed Office 2000, but in the
      process of "aquiring".. but might want to check Windows Updates
      on-lne?  Sure you have already done this.
