vmsync compile error [open-vm-tools-9.0.0-782409]

Dear all,
I am trying to compile open-vm-tools-9.0.0-782409 against linux 3.6.6 and
get the following error:

I have also tried to compile open-vm-tools-9.2.2-893683, which works, but
apparently only because it compiles without the vmsync module

could somebody please advise how to fix this?

there is no need to fix this
the vmsync moule is NOT NEEDED at all on recenct kernels

If it is not used why the code that does not compile and make us waste time 
is still there ? even removing the vmsync from makefiles other errors show 
us up... this is so basic and people need to waste time cleaning ... waste 
of time..

just add --without-kernel-modules building on a recent kernel and you are done
