[open-vm-tools-discuss] "VMWare Tools is out of date" message

Hello,

Thanks for the open-vm-tools project, I really prefer this
to needing a development environment and kernel headers
on a VM just to be able to build the VMWare tools.

One question, is the "VMWare Tools is out of date" message
a necessary side effect of not using the bundled tools? Is
there a way to point VMWare at the sourceforge project for
checking this?
