is there any improvement by not using --without-procps?

it would be pretty cool if someone explains what the VMware-Tools
are supposed to do except HA/filesystem-freeze/shutdown-reboot on
recent Linux guests having all the VMware drivers in the mainline
Kernel and in which situations what is needed/helpful

personally i like to disable as much as possible linking for
a smaller footprint and in doubt improved security in case
libraries needs pacthes because of bugs
