open-vm-tools is irrelevant to this question for two reasons:

1. Multi-touch feature in Workstation 9 is limited to Windows 8, not available on Linux.
2. Multi-touch feature does not depend on VMware Tools/open-vm-tools, it uses standard drivers available in the guest.
